All About Us!

We are a Youth Ballroom Dance Program based in the Antelope Valley, CA and run by the Antelope Valley chapter of USA Dance. Each individual school sends the teachers who decide to teach the program to a training with professional ballroom dance instructors. Then the teachers return to the school to teach the program to the students in their chosen grades. In addition to the initial training with a professional instructor, we will conduct a review session in the Antelope Valley for our local schools. For our outlying areas, we will conduct the review in your area. Beyond that, any help that is needed will be offered, and we will do our best to support you through this process.

Our 5th grade program is made up of only three dances: Foxtrot, Merengue, and East Coast Swing.

6th grade is also Foxtrot, Merengue, and East Coast Swing. In addition, they learn Rumba.

Our 7/8 grade students compete in Viennese Waltz, East Coast Swing, Bachata, and Cha Cha.

Our high school program competes in Viennese Waltz, East Coast Swing, Bachata and Cha Cha.

The benefits of this program are immense. Students learn important social skills and build a great deal of confidence. Through the process of learning new dances, partnering skills, and competition, students are given an opportunity that they won't soon forget.

High Desert Dance Classic

The culmination of the program is a competition between the participating schools, which takes place at the High Desert Dance Classic. This is a ballroom/salsa/swing event held at Antelope Valley College every year in March. The dates this year are March 9-11, 2018. The 5th and 6th graders compete on Saturday, and the 7th/8th graders and high school students compete on Sunday.

5th graders will learn a line dance to perform at the beginning of the competition with the other schools. Then they will compete as couples in the Foxtrot, Merengue, and East Coast Swing. There will be a process of prelims, quarterfinals, semifinals, and finals to determine the winners.

6th graders will complete the same dances as 5th grade, later in the day. They will add Rumba to the couple competition. The final competition will be a Jack & Jill competition. This is where the students are randomly paired up with a partner from another school. They will then compete and final with that partner in East Coast Swing.

7/8th graders will follow the same format as the 6th graders, but their couples competition will be in Viennese Waltz, Bachata, Cha Cha, and East Coast Swing. 7/8th graders will have their Jack & Jill competition in Cha Cha.

High School will have their couples competition in Viennese Waltz, East Coast Swing, Bachata and Cha Cha. Their Jack & Jill will be in Cha Cha.
